NEWS of the Day FTSE Surges To Year High As Sterling Slips By Skynews The FTSE 100 Index has continued to ignore the more cautious notes sounded by economists by surging to its highest level in more than a year. London's blue-chip shares broke through the 5200 barrier to a high of 5231 - the highest level since the middle of September last year.
