19 February: By Dr Hanne -Ruth Thompson. She spent almost four years in Bangladesh in the early 90s and her encounter with the Bangla language had a profound effect on her life / work. In 1999 her first book Essential Every Bengali was published in Dhaka. She then went on to do a PhD on Bangla grammar at SOAS in London under the supervision of William Radice.
