15 years without Melina Mercouri

March 6, 2009. Fifteen years have been passed without Melina Mercouri. Melina died in 1994 at the Memorial Hospital of New York, at the age of 73, from lung cancer. When her body returned to her beloved country, she was buried at the First Cemetery of Athens, with honours equivalent to that of a Head of State. Thousands of Greeks attended the funeral, while a whole nation was mourning a great personality of cultural and political significance.
