The City of Thuringowa was a city (Local Government Area) in North Queensland, Australia with a population of About 70,164 people and covered the northern and western parts of the urban area usually referred to locally as "the Twin Cities". Prior to its proclamation as a city on 1 January 1986, Thuringowa was a very large rural shire, that almost surrounded the then city of Townsville.
