Breeding The ISIS Report (2008) states, that only the Eastern giant eland is held in captivity. The Western giant eland have never bred in captivity as far as 2000, when the first herd was captured in Niokolo Koba national park in Senegal by the Society for the Protection of the Environment and Wildlife in Senegal (SPEFS). So far this year the Giant elands are held in semi-captivity in the Bandia and Fathala Reserves in Senegal. These reserves presently (July 2009) have all together 54 individuals… More information...
