Of Beans and Sprouts
Yes, we're joining the group of people who think that their lives are interesting enough to write about on the web. Now that we've reconnected with lots of family and friends on our 'round the USA trip, we've decided to post some news about what we're up to and where we are and where we've been, so all you far-flung folks can keep up with us (hard sometimes, I know.). Hopefully we'll get the hang of this blogging thing and make the site interesting and full of photos before…

Foraging
One thing that I've only started doing since being in Austria that I've really enjoyed is hunting for mushrooms in the summers. Chanterelles grow wild in the southern part Austria, where we used to live and where the high meadow and cabin are, and Christoph and his family have been mushrooming forever… Read more

Back again!
We're here and alive and well! I've posted a little update on what we've been up to, and had plans for lots of pictures.but they were uploading so slowly, that I only got the ones from our Candlemas candle-making day done, and a little reorganization. I'll try to get more up there soon! N… Read more
A hike on the Gaisberg
This morning the clocks "fell back" in Europe, so we were up and around earlier than usual and were greeted by an exceptionally beautiful blue-sky fall day. We called up our friends the Phelpses and went for a hike on the Gaisberg (a mountain right near here that has a nice loop trail going… Read more
About Us
About Us Nessa and Christoph met in the summer of 2004 on a small organic farm in Kentucky called Hill & Hollow. It took all of a week of living and working together before we knew that we were a good match, and in January 2005, Nessa flew over to Austria to see what is was like over there. Sometimes… Read more

Gabe got a riding tractor from his grandparents this year for his birthday, and you should have heard him as he opened the box-Woah! Oh! Put it together Papa! Job options
Christoph is weighing his options as far as jobs go, at the moment. He's had quite a few interviews and several offers, but the most interesting one seems to be a part-time computer job in Salzburg. Interesting because then he'd still have time to do farm and forest work with his brother and his father… Read more

Work and other random things
So Christoph has accepted the part-time position doing IT work with BIFIE, a government-sponsered institute for education research and development. He'll do Monday and Wednesday 8:30-2:30pm, then a few more hours here and there as needed. He also has been in touch with the folks at Grundfos Pumps (the… Read more
Alma Alena is here!
I'm laying here in bed with little Alma, who has just had lots of milk and lots of poops and is now sleeping peacefully next to me. Filling your belly and emptying your bowels.what could be more satisfying? Gabe and Christoph are in the living room playing the marble tower game, which sounds from here… Read more

Feeling better
Well, the after pains hadn't completely gone away, unfortunately, and yesterday evening was another painful one, after a day of feeling good. Fortunately the pain killers worked this time and I was able to sleep! Alma continues to nurse lots and sleep lots, and the nights really are quite good. The… Read more

Low
Not sure how this baby can get any lower before starting to come out, that's for sure. She's moving in ways Gabe never did, using my pelvic floor as a trampoline or something, and it sure feels strange sometimes! An election day baby? Same birthday as her Grandmother Great? As her Aunt Sarah? We'll… Read more
Fuschlsee
Fall came early this year over here, and for almost a month from mid-September to mid-October it was just clouds, clouds, clouds. Salzburg can have brilliant weather sometimes, and then it is incredibly beautiful-but sometimes the clouds move in, those gray blanket clouds with hardly any texture or… Read more
